This may have been technically the penultimate show of the Parachutes tour, but it terms of the scale of the moment, it was surely the peak. They’d climbed from the back-rooms of Camden pubs playing to 10 or 20 of their mates to a crowd of 180,000 opening for a band they’d grown up with as heroes.

The opening synth to Where The Streets Have No Name is enough to stir the emotions of even the hardest of hearts. One can only imagine the experience of hearing that topped by Bono’s voice picking out the chorus of Yellow.

It’s almost too fairy-tale for words, but perhaps after the struggles, they genuinely deserved it?
