The Forum in London’s Kentish Town is right next door to the Bull and Gate pub where the band had played only a month previously. Although physically close, in terms of scale, The Forum is in a different world. Every show up until this point had been in tiny rooms to under a hundred people. The Forum held over two thousand.

This show was clearly a huge deal and was another leg-up from their newly found ally Steve Lamacq at Radio 1. The show was part of a series of shows put on by Radio 1 and broadcast live. Doubtless the radio audience upped the nerves no end.

Chris’s main memory of the day appears to be Cerys from Catatonia asking him to hold her cigarette while she nipped to the loo. The days of rock and roll excess had truly begun!
