Over more recent years, there have been a few cheeky cameo appearances in Coldplay videos. Phil Harvey has popped up a few times, band friends Tim Crompton and Simon Pegg too. The Hardest Part video was due to have possibly the first of these friends and family features.
Chris’s dad was in town for a holiday. Chris decided it’d be a hoot to get him in the video. The plan was for him come on dressed in a overall to hand Chris the mic at the start of the song. Indeed, this was shot and ready to roll. Somewhere in the editing room though, the decision was made to omit his contribution.
Anyone who’s met Chris’s dad (and judging from his legendary guest lists for the band’s shows – he’s met a good proportion of the population!) will know that he’s a born superstar.
This time, it wasn’t to be. It’s surely only a matter of time, though…
