The band were high profile supporters of Oxfam‘s Make Trade Fair campaign throughout the Rush of Blood and X&Y campaigns. As with anything where you stick your head above the parapet, it occasionally drew fire – but clearly the choice between doing what you can to help or avoiding a sneering from the cynics is an easy one to make.
Coldplay have continued their work with charities, notably with Oxfam and with Kids Company.
This was, as Chris points out in the video, a good re-connection with the genuine grass-roots level of the campaign. Doubtless it re-newed his commitment to MTF before the X&Y tour – and for the duration of that tour, his piano displayed the Fair Trade logo big and bold on the back.
This was firstly achieved with green chalk, then later with luminous green tape.
