Drum drama at the Dublin Castle

Plus a first meeting with Dan Green

1998_02_22-Dublin-Castle-FlyerThe Dublin Castle is a legendary small venue in north London that has been around for many, many years. It’s famous as the starting point of a host of bands, including Madness, Blur, Supergrass, Amy Winehouse and countless others.

It was also the site of the first meeting between the band and ace soundman Dan Green, who has mixed almost every Coldplay show since and indeed went on to co-produce albums with the band. Due to the tiny stages in venues such as this, it’s very common for bands to arrange to share drum-kits. This was the intention on this night, but not quite how it worked out.

The complete refusal to let missing drums deter him from drumming, gives an early indication of quite how aptly named Mr Will Champion really is.
