I daren’t write about the weather for fear of tempting fate.
If I were to, however, I’d probably say that we’ve had a run of gorgeous days for the Coldplay outdoor experience in the last week or so. The crew hammocks are out and there’s a distinct whiff of factor 15 as show day rolls on.
The band are in fine form and there’s yet more soundcheck experimentation before heading off into the backstage studio.
The show itself gets underway and the sun that’s been so welcome through the whole day is refusing to leave. There’s a good portion of the early half of the show that’s pretty much performed in daylight.
For the lighting department, it isn’t ideal – but it is actually quite nice to be able to see the audience as well as hear them. Indeed on the B-Stage Chris makes mention of how much a part of the experience it is for them and how “the band comes to see the audience” just as much as the other way around.
On this score, Leipzig do themselves proud and they’re noisy, enthusiastic and a joy to behold throughout.
