I’m sure Brussels wasn’t the hottest gig of the tour (at a guess, I’d say that would probably go to one of the super-humid shows on the last leg in Southeast Asia). There’s something about the heat catching you by surprise, though, that makes it quite intense.
It’s ant-under-a-magnifying-glass stuff building the show for most of the crew and even by showtime, it’s well above warm.
For most of the day, it’s been a delicate balancing act of enjoying the sunshine and heading indoors for air conditioning and rehydration. For the crowd, they’ve had hoses creating mist over the queues and there’s a small army of folks wandering the crowd with beer barrels on their backs to ease the inconvenience of having to walk to the bar.
It’s another day when the ‘getting dark’ portion of the day seems to be moving ever later. Whilst this is not ideal for a lot of the show, I have to say, the B-Stage section backlit with a glorious sunset does work very well.
After all the experience we’ve had of touring in the wet, you sometimes forget how idyllic stadium shows can be when the sunshine comes along for the ride.
Now, if we could just get it into a flightcase and take it with us…
