Following a very special first night in Seoul, there are high expectations for night 2.

If anything, I’d have to say the second night may have topped it. The band are clearly feeling enthused, as the setlist throws up a good few surprises. The B-stage gets Princess of China added at the last minute, while out on the C-stage, Warning Sign gets a rare outing.

It’s tricky to talk about crowds being special without it sounding like a line. The proof in this instance though, comes when sitting in the production office after the show. One by one, every crew-member that walks in makes comment on how incredible the crowd was this evening. I sit and chat with production co-ordinator Nicole and we come to the same conclusion – it’s almost as though tonight’s audience were specially designed for Coldplay.

They are such a perfect fit in so many ways. From their slightly understated and reserved entry into the arena, they blossom into a vibrant display of pure infectious joy. You could say there’s a parallel with the band’s development from early days to now – but perhaps that’s trying a little too hard.

Whatever, Seoul has been a completely unexpected high point of not just this Asia leg, but the whole tour – and that’s what’s important.

I would be absolutely staggered if the band never returned.
R42.
