Mounted police, of course, are so much a common thing in Canada, that they form the basis of almost as many bad jokes as putting “eh?” at the end of a sentence.

In the UK, though, police on horses are something you generally only see on the news – and then, it’s in amongst footage of riots or protests. Even not viewed through that lens, the scene here was pretty crazy. Hundreds of people lining the pavements and blocking traffic in downtown Toronto.

The acoustic session was the usual scramble. Some early tunes were pulled out for the occasion and a couple from the as-yet-unreleased X&Y.

Coldplay and Canada have a special relationship, of course. For a nation so famed for their reserve, Canadian crowds unfailingly greet the band with staggering noise and enthusiasm. So much so, that the band filmed their arena shows in Toronto on this tour for the How We Saw The World concert film.

In the meantime, it was a four-horse escort on to the next radio session of the day…
